It is certainly no secret that skilled audit professionals have been in short supply for quite some time – this shortage pre-dates the Pandemic and is now even more acute. Yes, some recent audit failures have had a lot of bad press and for some, audit has not been viewed as an attractive accounting career for a while, however, audit roles have evolved and can be a fantastic career choice.

Audit work has traditionally taken place ‘on site’ meaning that previously many Auditors have had to spend excess time away from home and family. Now the increased implementation of flexible working practices, remote working technology and greater automation of much of the Audit process has allowed for a decrease in the amount of time spent on-site.

Many of the routine audit tasks are now automated with the leverage of specialist technology and software, freeing much of the auditors’ time to spend on more interesting areas of the role including advising the key stakeholders within their clients. You will be helping protect businesses and advising them on how to improve. There is much more need for the auditor to be creative in the role, rather than the traditional ‘box-ticking.’

As a potential candidate, you can be rewarded with an excellent salary, home/hybrid working and some wonderful and very real career opportunities to achieve Director/Partnership with the requisite support to achieve RI. Many clients are also preparing to upskill talent on previously lapsed audit skills so there are plenty of great openings for those returning to Audit too.
